Andrew Heslop joins Be Known Agency

Not-for-profit specialist and founder of Neighbour Day, Andrew Heslop has a new job, joining Be Known Agency.

Heslop is an award winning keynote speaker and social entrepreneur with substantial experience across transport, health, media, government and political sectors over 30 years.

Be Known Agency founder Jonathan Creek says Andrew’s wide experience will expand the reach of the company, while his early experience in radio and television as a journalist and program maker will be a definite advantage when it comes to helping clients to be known.

“Andrew not only understands story telling but also what it takes to pique the interests of entire communities. There aren’t that many people who have a proven track record to rival what Andrew achieved with Neighbour Day,” said Creek.

“Think about it, one guy developed and drove what is now an internationally recognised, socially important program to keep communities connected.”

Commenting on the appointment, Andrew said that while technology and channels have changed dramatically since his first job with John Fairfax & Sons at 5DN Adelaide when he was 15, the basics had stayed the same.

“Stories and communities are now a critical part of a brand’s narrative – and survival. Telling a story, selling a story, has always been important regardless of the final product,” he said.

“With my career experience working for Australian Red Cross and British Red Cross, and in founding Neighbour Day, I know how vital it is to engage directly with donor, supporter and volunteer networks to make change happen.

“Be Known is an agency with a social conscience and we’re keen to help charities and not-for-profits get their stories told. It’s no longer just about sending a media release and hoping someone will pick it up – it’s about transforming organisational thinking to get the story out on all of the platforms that matter.

“To be successful, regardless of your sector, you have to be known,” said Heslop.

Be Known was founded by award winning investigative journalist Jonathan Creek in 2013 after 15 years with Seven West Media. The business is known for its unique approach to gaining publicity and exposure, drawing upon an intimate knowledge of how the media operates to drives real business outcomes.
