PetRescue is a national animal welfare charity with a vision of a future where every pet is safe, respected and loved. We run a raft of innovative programs to help rescue pets in need and provide the most successful pet adoption platform in Australia.

PetRescue has been running since 2004 and is Australia’s most highly trafficked charity website, connecting thousands of rescue pets with around 40,000 potential adopters every single day.

 

We’re funded by our corporate and philanthropic partners, supported through donations by millions of pet adopters and pet loving Australians, and valued by hundreds of rescue groups, shelters, vets and pounds for the innovative free adoption services and programs we provide.

Desired Skills, Experience & Attributes

 

As a Board Director, you’ll be eager to share your expertise, knowledge and time, making a significant contribution to our strategic direction and the work we do.

 

The ideal candidate will be an experienced board director with expert charity governance skills. You may have a legal background and a passion for philanthropy and fundraising.

 

You will hold a growth mindset and be committed to increasing your knowledge in animal welfare to become a passionate advocate for PetRescue, pets and the people who care for them.

 

You must be aware of and prepared to adequately discharge your legal duties and responsibilities associated with being a not-for-profit board member.

 

Requirements

 

  • Extensive experience with not for profit and/or charity sector Boards and proven leadership/ management skills
  • Extensive knowledge, interest and experience of ACNC compliance and charity governance
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, and an active positive participant when on Boards
  • Strong attention to detail, an interest in innovation and technology, and good commercial acumen
  • Passionate about PetRescue’s mission, and human and animal welfare issues generally
  • An Australian based person is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

You will attend a monthly Board meeting and an annual strategy meeting (online or in-person), working with the Board to form a collective agreement on decisions. You will also be invited to attend an offsite two-yearly, all-hands gathering in Western Australia (conditions permitting).

 

The role includes but is not limited to:

 

  • Contribute and apply knowledge and experience to further PetRescue’s overarching strategic objectives
  • Grow and strengthen PetRescue’s philanthropy relationships
  • Grow and strengthen PetRescue’s fundraising capabilities
  • Monitoring the strategic direction of the organisation and the attainment of its strategies and objectives in conjunction with the executive;
  • Overseeing the design, implementation and periodic review of appropriate and effective policies, processes and codes for the organisation
  • Monitoring the operational and financial position and performance of the organisation generally;
  • Application of governance, policy and risk management knowledge and experience to advise the Board on PetRescue’s existing and future programs, service delivery models, and its impact and reach

 

Time Commitment:

 

  • Monthly one hour attendance at Board/Strategy meetings via digital communication channels or occasionally held in person at PetRescue’s Perth headquarters
  • Attendance at annual and bi-annual strategic sessions
  • Attend major events, when possible
  • Own time required to complete the key responsibilities outlined above
