The award, normally valued at $100,000, has been a feature of the community sector since 1985 and is a testament to Macquarie’s longstanding support for the NFP sphere.

The Macquarie Social Innovation Award recognises, promotes and rewards ideas that address social needs, and encourages lateral thinking about community issues.

Applicants are asked to demonstrate how their organisation is benefiting Australians and addressing specified community need.

Lisa George, head of the Macquarie Group Foundation, said that, “The previous winners of Macquarie’s Social Innovation Awards – the School for Social Entrepreneurs in 2010, Milk Crate Theatre in 2012 and the Fogarty EDvance program in 2014 – were outstanding examples of how innovators seek new ways to support the disadvantaged in our community.”

The deadline for expressions of interest is 22 May 2015. Longlisted candidates will be asked to provide more information after that date.

The winner will be announced in August 2015.
