Creative Australia’s latest program, ‘Sing for Good’ takes a new approach to fundraising, by offering a fresh alternative to fun runs and bake sales.

“Fun runs have become institutionalised across fundraising calendars, but unfortunately, they exclude the majority of our communities” says Tania de Jong AM, chair and founder of Creativity Australia, the charity behind Sing for Good.

Sing for Good is a creative, healthy, fun and uplifting project everyone can do. It is also a powerful fundraiser that gives people who can’t (or don’t wish to) run the chance to be part of a fundraising team.

“Sing for Good is easy and everyone can do it. It is also just as powerful as running a marathon. Real courage is needed to sing in public; likewise it is courage that is needed to overcome adversity, illness and disadvantage”, explains de Jong.

“Neuroscience proves singing makes us happier, healthier, smarter and more creative, and that’s what will make Sing for Good so powerful.”

Sing for Good was set up by Creativity Australia to raise awareness of the power of singing to improve mental health, wellbeing and connect communities. It is also a fundraiser for the With One Voice social inclusion program that is changing the lives of people all across Australia.

Swinburne University research showed 98% of With One Voice participants experienced less stress, 91% improved social bonds and 66% feel less depressed. The program has also been named in Anthill’s SMART 100 social innovations in 2015, 2014 and 2013.

The With One Voice program welcomes people aged 9 to 90, from all cultures and backgrounds. Through the Wish List diverse people grant each other wishes like music lessons, language tuition and jobs.

“When we set up Sing for Good we were initially only thinking about fundraising for the With One Voice program, however, we soon saw the possibility was bigger than just us and now we want to share the opportunity with all charities” says Ross Maher, Executive Director of Creativity Australia.
“This will change the fundraising landscape in Australia like Movember did for men’s health.”

“It will inspire your team, the people you serve and your supporters, improve their mental health and wellbeing. It will also offer a chance to connect to new supporters and raise the valuable money you need to achieve your mission.”
