Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA) has appointed Ashley Rose, chief executive of Mondial Fundraising Communications, to its independent Code Authority, responsible for monitoring and enforcing member compliance with the FIA Code.

A career fundraiser who has worked in the sector for 21 years, Rose brings a wealth of on-the-ground experience in fundraising campaigns and will offer service provider’s perspective on matters that come before the Authority.

Members of the Code Authority are chosen by the FIA Board of Directors for their stature in the fundraising community and their ability to adjudicate independently in the interest of upholding the values embodied in the Code.

“I’m delighted to have been asked by fundraising’s peak body to work closely with my new colleagues on the Code Authority on issues around best practice and ethical fundraising,” said Rose

What I bring to the table is practical experience directly engaging with donors and the public as opposed to being two or three steps removed. My team and I deal daily with – and practise what – the Code is attempting to improve across the board,” he said,

The more exposure members have to the FIA Code, Rose continues, the more gravitas there is. He wants all charities to espouse best practice and treat the donor in the best possible manner with the cumulative effect to make everyone’s marketing and fundraising better.

“It’s vital to continue building trust and confidence in the sector,” he said.

Rose established MonDial Fundraising Communications 13 years ago in Sydney. The contact centre works solely for the not-for-profit sector, delivering telephone-based communications to strengthen relationships between charities and donors. He oversees a team of 65 who work primarily on out-bound telephone fundraising campaigns and integrated direct marketing tailored to individual supporters.

Rose started his career as an account manager at Personal Fundraising Partnership, formerly the UK’s largest fundraising agency, where he was responsible for a portfolio of well-regarded charity and not-for-profit clients. During his time there, he was part of the team that developed the UK’s first face-to-face fundraising campaigns for Greenpeace and Amnesty International

FIA chief executive Katherine Raskob congratulated Rose on his appointment, sayingSince creating the Code Authority in 2017, we have worked hard to establish higher standards for fundraisers around best practice and ethical conduct. Having Ashley on the Code Authority sends a strong signal that we are expecting high standards of supplier conduct across the board to build donor confidence and trust,” she said.
