Homes for Homes has granted $160,000 to support four social and affordable housing projects across New South Wales and Western Australia.
Homes for Homes raises funds to create more social and affordable housing through voluntary donations from homeowners and renters. Residents agree to register their property with Homes for Homes, which enables a tax-deductible donation of 0.1% of the sale price (or rent) to flow to Homes for Homes.
This is the first time Homes for Homes has provided funding in grants to social housing projects in these states.
The successful New South Wales projects:
- $40,000 granted to Coffs Harbour Support Services to repair an underutilised property for people with a disability after extensive hail damage.
- $40,000 granted to Housing Trust to support the build of units for older women and women with children.
The successful Western Australian projects:
- $40,000 granted to Youth Futures for the build of a 6-bedroom property, to be used as short-term crisis accommodation for young people.
- $40,000 granted to YWCA to support the transformation of property into apartments for older women, family violence survivors and women at risk of homelessness.
Funding is pooled and granted to experienced housing providers to increase the supply of social and affordable housing. Homes for Homes now has granted more than $1.4 million in funds across 17 projects, providing housing for 293 people.
“Unless you have a safe place to sleep, you just can’t turn your life around. This grant means the world to us, it will enable us to double our capacity to help house at-risk and vulnerable young people,” said Mark Waite, CEO, Youth Futures WA.
