Family violence budget too low

The Victorian Family Violence Minister Fiona Richardson has said the sector is disappointed in the family violence budget.

“The budget for family violence is too low,” said Richardson.

“They barely cover the cost of the current national advertising campaign.”

A $110 million family violence commitment was announced in Tuesday night’s Budget.

“It doesn’t come close to the $572 million Victoria set aside after the state’s family violence royal commission,” said Richardson.

“An average $36 million investment over three years for the whole of Australia falls well short.”

Richardson said there had been hope the Federal Government would deliver more after a $100 million announcement in September, but the sector had been disappointed.

“Actions always speak louder than words,” she said.
