Jean Madden, Founder of charity group Street Swags and a former Young Australian of the Year finalist, was charged on Tuesday with dishonestly causing detriment to the charity.

It’s alleged she took control of the charity’s website and emails over the weekend after being sacked in May following accusations she misappropriated $441,000 from the organisation.

Yesterday, the The Brisbane Supreme Court granted the board’s application to prohibit Madden, who did not appear in person, from accessing or using Street Swags funds, entering its office or representing herself as the company’s current director.

Madden has agreed to hand back control of the website, email and bank accounts to the board of directors.

The court application also required Madden to comply with her bail conditions, which included giving up control of the company’s accounts, website and any business records in her possession.

Madden designed the Street Swags bedding, of which more than 50,000 have been distributed by the not-for-profit charity.

She is due to face Brisbane’s Magistrates Court on the fraud charge on August 4.
