The Act for Kids Board has appointed highly regarded non-profit sector leader, Nigel Harris AM, as its new Chairman.

Harris was voted in by the Board during the Annual General Meeting held on Monday, December 11 and replaces outgoing chairman The Hon. Dr David Hamill AM, who held the position for six years.

Act for Kids CEO Dr Katrina Lines thanked Dr Hamill for his tireless service to the Board and congratulated Harris on his new role.

“David led the board through many of the organisation’s challenges and triumphs – from the Covid-19 pandemic, workforce shortages, to growth and helping thousands of children and families across Australia,” said Dr Lines.

“On behalf of the entire organisation, I would like to thank him for his outstanding service over the past six years.”

“I look forward to welcoming and working with the new Chairman, Nigel, who I know will continue the fantastic work David has achieved for the organisation.”

Harris is no stranger to the organisation, having formerly served as Deputy Chairman and Board Director of Act for Kids.

He is the Managing Director of Nigel Harris & Associates, an advisory and consulting practice specialising in philanthropy and fundraising leadership.

He has held executive leadership roles in non-profit organisations during a career spanning 40 years, most notably serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Mater Foundation (Qld) for more than two decades.

Harris said he was delighted to lead an exciting new chapter for the Act for Kids Board.

“In the past year, the Act for Kids team has positively changed the lives of 40,000 Australians, of that, almost 23,000 were children,” he said.

“The Board will face a significant task in the coming year amid a growing demand from children and families for the organisation’s help.

“However, I believe that under steadfast guidance, we can attain extraordinary success in helping keep kids safe, heal from trauma and live happy lives.”
