#CEOSelling to raise awareness for street paper vendors all over the world

The Big Issue, an independent, not-for-profit organisation that develops solutions to help people facing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage positively change their lives is gearing up to celebrate International Vendor Week with our annual #CEOSelling campaign.

The Big Issue provides opportunities for people to earn their own income, while helping them build confidence and their capacity to help themselves.

The Big Issue operates a number of programs alongside its well-known Big Issue magazine: the Women’s Subscription Enterprise, Community Street Soccer Program, The Big Issue Classroom, The Big Idea and Homes for Homes.

During 3-9 February, more than 70 CEOs and leaders across Australia will don the fluoro vest, selling The Big Issue magazine to help celebrate and raise awareness for the 9000+ street paper vendors all over the world, who are working hard as a way out of homelessness, disadvantage and marginalisation.

Since The Big Issue sprang into life in 1996, more than 7000 people have donned the trademark fluoro vest.

“By selling the magazine, they’ve improved their circumstances, and forged friendships and community along the way,” according to a statement in their website.

The Big Issue is part of a global community of more than 110 street publications across 35 countries, all part of the International Network of Street Papers or 4.6 million readers worldwide helping to combat homelessness and disadvantage.

The International Vendor Week edition dedicated to remarkable people will feature an inspirational Letter to My Younger Self series penned by vendors around the country: Rachel in Sydney, David in Perth, Stephen in Melbourne and our cover star, Lenny, in Brisbane. Their letters offer hope, dignity and compassion.
