Dr Joshua McCarroll and Dr Marcia Munoz from the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research (CCIA) will each receive $50,000 per year for two years from the Balnaves Foundation, whose founder Neil Balnaves said he was proud to help such talented scientists pursue such important research.

“It gives me great pleasure to know the Balnaves Foundation Young Researchers’ Fund is identifying promising talent and allowing young scientists to pursue new ideas to combat childhood cancer,” he said.

Dr McCarroll is part of the CCIA Pharmacoproteomics Program and will be focusing his research on brain cancer.

Dr Munoz works in CCIA’s Experimental Therapeutics Program and will be researching neuroblastoma.

The researchers were presented with their awards at a ceremony at New South Wales Parliament House by the Minister for Science and Medical research, The Hon Jodi McKay.
