International aid organisation CARE Australia has a new Director of International Programs and Operations, David Sims.

Sims comes to CARE from Oxfam Australia where he was Head of Program Development and Effectiveness. He has also held leadership roles within aid and humanitarian organisations both in Australia and internationally.

CARE Australia CEO Peter Walton said David is an experienced leader who brings valuable insights from a diverse range of development and humanitarian programs around the world. He has a keen understanding of the changing contexts Walton said INGOs are working in, and has led programs that have supported people and communities to empower themselves in new and innovative ways.

“He shares CARE Australia’s commitment to maximising our impact, shifting power through aid localisation, and putting the people we work for at the heart of everything we do. I very much look forward to the skills and leadership David will contribute to CARE Australia as we pursue our revised and focussed strategic vision of climate and gender justice and more resilient communities in our region,” Walton said.

David’s experience spans continents and regions — including the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. He has led large local and international teams to develop innovative solutions in both fast-onset and drawn-out humanitarian crises, and community-led development projects that address the root causes of poverty and inequality.
