September is Dementia Awareness Month

Over 81,000 Victorians are estimated to be living with dementia – a number expected to soar to around 246,000 by 2050.

This year’s September campaign will focus on promoting communities where people living with dementia are respected, valued and supported to maintain a good quality of life.

Maree McCabe, CEO Alzheimer’s Australia Vic, wants to see people use Dementia Awareness Month as opportunity to make themselves and their communities more informed about dementia.

“We want Australians to realise that everyone can play a part in making their own communities more dementia-friendly. Action starts with each and every one of us.

“One way you can do that is by becoming more dementia-aware. Find out more about dementia, increase your understanding of the condition and its impacts and help us spread the word.”

World Alzheimer’s Day is on Monday 21 September.
