Social enterprise, Orange Sky Laundry, has launched a new laundry van named ‘Hunter’ in the Newcastle region in partnership with the Development and Relief Agency (DARA).
Engaging a team of 40 volunteers, the service will offer free laundry and a platform for conversations across the communities of Newcastle, Merewether, Warners Bay, Broadmeadow and Islington.
Funded by DARA, the van will operate across six days and facilitate more than 80 hours a week of non-judgemental conversations. It will also work in conjunction with DARA’s van, which offers hospitality and support to the community in Islington Park from 5pm each Saturday.
Orange Sky Co-Founder, Lucas Patchett, said he was excited to launch the service and provide support to some of the 2,000 people doing it tough across the region.
“It is a privilege not only to wash and dry a friend’s clothes, but also to sit down and have a conversation with that person who has taken time from their day to use our service. We can’t wait for Hunter to start having a big impact on the streets of Newcastle and surrounding areas.”
