Annual Information Statement

Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission calls on charities that operate on a standard financial year (July 1 to June 30)  to submit their 2022 Annual Information Statement by January 31st 2023.

For several charities, the Annual Information Statement (AIS) is required at different times, and the reporting period for a charity determines the deadline.

The two most common due dates for a charities AIS deadlines are:

  • 31 December for charities that report to a regular financial year (1 July to 30 June)
  • 30 June for charities that report to a calendar year (1 January to 31 December)

These dates apply to all ACNC-registered charities, individual charities as well as ACNC-approved reporting groups.

The standard ACNC reporting period is the financial year, from 1 July to 30 June. If the ACNC-registered charity uses a different reporting period, they will need to formally request to use this for the charity’s Annual Information Statement. Once approved, the charity no longer need to submit formal requests for a different reporting period.

A few things to keep in mind before submitting an Annual Information Statement:

  1. Identify your charity’s size – different sized charities have different requirements to fulfil.
  2. Check your charity’s reporting period – the charity’s financial year-end date on the Charity Register.
  3. Confirm your charity’s reporting is up to date – before submitting a new AIS, ensure the previous AIS’ has been completed.
  4. Check your charity’s Address For Service email – to stay up-to-date with the ACNC’s notices.
  5. Identify who will make the declaration – a lodging entity, agent or authorised person within the charity can make the declaration.
  6. Keep a record of relevant financial documents-  this is important in completing the AIS.

To submit an annual information statement for a charity, sign into the charity portal and select the charity you are submitting for. Select the option to launch your 2022 Annual Information Statement by clicking on “Manage reporting.”

The Commissioner extended the deadline for charities that report to a regular 1 July to 30 June financial year, to 31 January 2023.
