Yachting Australia announces Matt Carroll as CEO.

Carroll is an experienced and respected sports administrator. His career spans more than two decades in Rugby Union in various roles, including Deputy Chief Executive and General Manager. His past role at the Football Federation Australia (FFA) saw him establish the A-League and complete a comprehensive review of community football to maximise participation for FFA, state associations and clubs. Carrol has also recently returned from Japan where he was interim Chief Operating Officer for Japan Rugby World Cup 2019.

Yachting Australia’s President, Matt Allen said Carroll’s reputation as an experienced administrator with a comprehensive understanding of the business of sport, as well as the requirements of the national body, state associations, clubs, members, partners and participants, provides an opportunity to take the organisation to the next phase of its growth.

Carroll replaces Phil Jones who is leaving the organisation after serving 17 years as CEO.

Tony Compier takes the lead at GymSports New Zealand.

Specialising in organisational development, Compier brings a wealth of management, operations and commercial expertise to the role of CEO. His previous role at Triathlon Queensland saw him drive best-practice standards to deliver relevant and effective programs.

Compier’s skills and success were recognised during the recent Queensland Sports Awards where he was awarded title of Administrator of the year.

“We are excited to have Compier join us. Tony’s official start date is January 19th 2015. Tony will begin his induction pre-Christmas,” says Denis Mowbray, Chairman of GymSports New Zealand.

Australian Computer Society (ACS) elects Andrew Johnson as CEO.

Johnson joined ASC in 2011 as General Manager for Strategic Initiatives and was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2013. In that time he has overseen continued growth of the Society and spearheaded the development of a suite of products which have enhanced the Society’s position in the information and communication technology space.

In his time at the ACS he has delivered significant growth results in the SFIA and education space, all while improving member engagement, particularly among professional partners. He was instrumental in the development of the organisation’s current three-year plan and product offering.

Johnson holds a Masters degree in Technology Policy and Management, he is an ACS Certified Professional and an accredited MySFIA Consultant.

Johnson has extensive senior management experience servicing both the higher education and VET sectors, including membership based professional associations. His career has seen him work in a diverse range of markets across the Asia Pacific region.

“It is a testament to the strength of the Society that for the first time in our almost 50 year history, we are able to elevate one of our own to the role of CEO,”
Says Brenda Aynsley, President of the ACS.

“I am confident he will ably lead the Society as we build towards our 50th anniversary in 2016.”

Chris Melham steps into the role of CEO at the Australian Trucking Association (ATA).

Melham has 27 years’ experience as an industry advocate. He has represented a number of industries at state, federal and international levels. Melham has held several roles within the not-for-profit sector, including CEO of the National Road Transport Association, Australian Seed Association and Asia Pacific Seed Association.

“Chris Melham has been the CEO for the National Road Transport Association for the past 3 years, and builds on a successful career of industry advocacy spanning more than 25 years. The ATA board welcomes him to the position, and we look forward to working with Chris in the future,” says Noelene Watson, Chair of the ATA.

Melham officially takes on the role on 21 March 2015.
