Located in the heart of Prahran, these modern and energy-efficient apartments represent a significant milestone in Victoria’s housing landscape together with an additional 650 apartments delivered in Brighton and Flemington as part of GLM1.
Federal Minister for Housing and Homelessness Julie Collins and State Minister for Housing Harriet Shing officially opened the redeveloped housing site, which includes 228 social and 195 private rental homes and 11 specialist disability accommodations including a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms, catering to the diverse needs of the community.
Grant McNeill, CHL’s Victoria State Manager, expressed the organisation’s delight in welcoming residents to the Prahran community.
“We are pleased to see both returning and first-time residents move into these well-designed homes that will provide comfort, affordability, and energy efficiency with a 5-star rating for heating and cooling, ultimately reducing expenses.”
“With more than 100 people moved in and new move-ins occurring weekly, CHL remains committed to ensuring a seamless transition for residents and providing specialised tenancy and property management services for the next four decades whilst all land remains in public ownership,” added McNeill.
Newly moved-in resident, Margaret-Rose Stringer who prefers to be called M-R said, “I am totally amazed to be in this gorgeous apartment with high-quality features and beautiful gardens. Not only is this place fantastic but the staff at Community Housing Ltd, who have been given the responsibility of overseeing this development, are so supportive and delightful.”
Conveniently located close to shopping precincts, schools, and public transportation and with easy access to local destinations including Prahran Aquatic Centre and Chapel Street, the Bang St development offers a range of local spaces including outdoor areas, recreational spaces, and a rooftop garden for residents to enjoy.
“The location of this development is great with lovely cafes and shops. It’s a short distance to Prahran Central where I can visit the post office and my pharmacist,” said M-R.
Kate Daddo, CHL’s Community Development Manager, emphasised the organisation’s commitment to fostering a supportive and thriving community environment.
“We are working closely with our Stonington community partners and residents to organise engaging community programs, including weekly coffee, clay, and craft clubs, as well as an After School Youth Space for artistic and recreational activities at this development,” said Daddo.
“This is aimed to facilitate connection and community amongst the residents.”
