Paul Howes, National Secretary of the Australian Workers’ Union (AWU), has accepted an invitation to join the Board of beyondblue.

Jeff Kennett, Chairman of beyondblue, says “We approached Paul late last year because beyondblue values [his] work with the union movement on our very important National Workplace Program, and because we have appreciated Paul’s commitment to improving mental health in the workplace. While Paul’s history within the union movement will be very helpful to beyondblue, he brings skills in other areas that will be just as valuable.”

Rob Koczkar steps into the role will succeed Michael Traill as Chief Executive of Social Ventures Australia (SVA) from October 2014, with Traill to take on a new role as Executive Director.

Paul Robertson, Chair of the SVA Board, says “As a passionate believer in a fairer Australia, Rob is uniquely qualified to build on the great platform that has been established at SVA. This is a ‘win-win’ for SVA – Michael will remain closely involved with SVA and we will have an exceptional Chief Executive Officer (CEO).”

The SMSF Professionals’ Association of Australia (SPAA) has appointed Jacqui Murdoch as its Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately.

Murdoch established a management consultant company in 2006 that has won global contracts with the London Olympics in 2012 and the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016. Her responsibilities also included Vice President of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games and Director of Games Delivery for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Murdoch joins SPAA boasting 18 years of experience in executive management, administration and international event management since joining the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in 1996. Murdoch has also had previous member association and education experience.

The Western Australian Internet Association (WAIA) has appointed a new President, Pawel Mrugalski.

Mrugalski has been involved with WAIA for the past three years on the Executive Committee and was recently appointed Secretary at the 2013 Annual General Meeting. During a short but busy term as Secretary, Mrugalski has been involved in the expansion of the IX Australia network assisting Joe Wooller. Gavin Tweedie has now been appointed Secretary and will be supported by Mrugalski due to his involvement in a number of ongoing projects.

The Dandenong Basketball Association (DBA) has appointed David Graham to the role of CEO.

The DBA says Graham is an outstanding and professional leader who brings a wealth of experience to the role and possesses a strong background in the marketing field and digital media. In addition to Graham’s experience in the corporate sector, he is also extremely familiar with basketball across all levels in Australia, having played in the National Basketball League for the North Melbourne Giants and Geelong Supercats, and represented Australia at both junior and senior levels, including the 1990 World Championships in Argentina.

It is anticipated that David will officially commence his role as DBA’s CEO in January 2013.

In addition, Netball Australia has boosted its Board with the appointment of Anne-Marie Corboy, CEO of the Health Employees Superannuation Trust Australia (HESTA).

Corboy heads up Australia’s largest super fund dedicated to the health and community services industry with $27 billion in assets and more than 770,000 members and 150,000 employers. In 2011 she was listed as one of Australia’s True Leaders by the Australian Financial Review and in 2013 was recognised as one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence by Westpac and the Australian Financial Review.
