The purpose of our association is to…
The Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) is the leading nutrition organisation in Australia. DAA is devoted to supporting its members and advocating better food, better health and wellbeing for all.
Our members…
DAA is a professional association representing more than 4,400 members. These members include dietitians, student dietitians and various categories of associate members (such as nutritionists and nutrition scientists).
The biggest challenge our members face is…
Being recognised as the experts in the nutrition arena, as there are so many other (often unqualified) people and groups providing nutrition and dietary advice. It is the responsibility of DAA to continually support members to deal with this and to challenge misinformation and non-evidence-based practice on their behalf.
Member benefits include…
DAA is devoted to supporting and increasing opportunities for its members. Members receive professional information and subsidised professional development opportunities. Members also have the opportunity to participate in the Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) Program – the nationally-recognised credential for dietitians.
We advocate strongly for…
Vision – DAA is the leader in nutrition for better food, better health and wellbeing for all.
Mission – DAA is the peak body of dietetic and nutrition professionals providing strategic leadership in food and nutrition through empowerment, advocacy, education, accreditation and communication.
Our greatest achievement is…
1. Developing and having a nationally-recognised and robust credential for dietitians (the APD credential)
2. Being recognised as the leader in nutrition
3.Holding the Chair of the International Confederation of Dietetics Associations.
Our events…
DAA holds a National Conference every year, and in 2012 DAA will be hosting the International Congress of Dietetics in Sydney. DAA also runs the Australia’s Healthy Weight Week initiative each year as part of its strategy to combat obesity.
As an association it is important to…
Continue to position DAA as the peak nutrition body in Australia, and APDs as the experts in nutrition, as well as to support our members whilst applying all the principles of good governance.
