Julia Gillard joins beyondblue board as a Director

Former Prime Minister Gillard will attend her first board meeting in February.

“Julia Gillard will not only bring a great deal of experience to our Board, but importantly the passion for the sector that drove her in government to establish the National Disability Scheme, which if professionally and compassionately introduced could be the most important social reform of the century,” said beyondblue Chairman Jeff Kennett.

“So much of the success of beyondblue has been that it has received bi-partisan support from politicians and governments since its inception in 2000.

“Ms Gillard’s appointment only reinforces that bi-partisanship.”

Scott Morrison MP appointed Federal Minister for Social Services

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Mr Morrison would now be responsible for welfare, childcare, family support, seniors, aged care and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in this portfolio.

“Importantly, Mr Morrison will have carriage of the families package the Government will release in 2015 to help ease the cost of living for Australian families by improving the affordability and accessibility of childcare,” said Mr Abbott.

Mr Morrison was previously the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection.

Livestock SA welcomes Geoff Power as President

The Orroroo livestock and wool producer replaces the organisation’s inaugural leader Richard Halliday, who was recently elected National President of WoolProducers Australia.

Mr Power is a past President of WoolProducers, and has been an executive member of the organisation since 2005. He has also been a member of the South Australian Sheep Advisory Group and is a current chair of the SA state government’s Wild Dog Action Group.

Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) announces new Future2 Directors

Anne Graham and Joseph Hoe, both Certified Financial Planners (CFP) with over 15 years’ experience in the industry, will assist Future2 to raise its profile and create a pool of funds for grant making. They will volunteer their time and network of contacts to support the foundation’s growth and to extend the FPA’s work in the community.

Future2 Chair Steven Helmich said “Anne and Joseph have much to offer Future2 as we reach out to financial planning professionals and, through them, help disadvantaged young people find a brighter future and a productive place in communities all over Australia.”

Future2 provides grants to not-for-profit organisations, including the Make the Difference! Grants aimed at 12-25 year olds who may be financially disadvantaged, homeless, juvenile justice offenders, drug or alcohol dependent, disabled or Indigenous. Funded projects have been in the areas of financial literacy, skills training, work experience, community service and mentoring.

Richard Petty elected to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Board

Professor Petty, who is based in Hong Kong, is Professor (Accounting and Finance) and Executive Director International at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, was elected to the role by the members of the IFAC.

He is a former Chairman and President of CPA Australia and is a board member of several other companies. His specific role on the board will be to act as a representative of the accounting academic community.

Professor Petty said he looked forward to working with IFAC to advance the interests of the accounting profession.

“It’s a great honour to join the Board of IFAC and to have the opportunity to work with colleagues from around the world who have a common objective in serving IFAC’s members and in strengthening the accounting profession,” he said.
