NFP lunches hub for Australians living with disability

The first of its kind in Australia, Online Inclusion (Oi) is one of the most progressive collective approaches to providing information on disability.

Officially launched by the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull, Minister for Communications last Monday, Oi will offer a structured and informal online support platform for people with a disability who are isolated and unsure of where to source appropriate information from. Over 65 organisations nationally have partnered with the project to ensure accurate and easily accessible resources are available.

Oi will provide factsheets and host online group sessions, online therapy, workshops and e-learning in a safe and accessible environment.

“1 in 5 people in Australia live with a disability. A driving motivation for Oi is to make the journey to finding information and support easier for those who are isolated in remote areas or confused about support options,” says Bruce Corlett AM, Chairman, Lifestart.

Suzanne Becker, CEO of Lifestart identifies inclusion as a key reason for the platform development. “Whether you are a person living with a disability, a family member, carer or person working in the field, Oi can provide support, access, online group sessions and much more. Our aim is to ensure that people living with a disability can be included in all types of activities, work and community events. The launch of Oi with the Minister for Communications, the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull showed there was a lot of support in the sector for a collaborative disability hub and we welcome partnerships from all disability organisations to come along and join Oi,” says Becker.

Other services that will be provided by Oi include social networking, chat opportunities, a creative resource centre, online therapy and record management.

“This is an exciting initiative which will ultimately empower people to make better informed decisions about their support options,” says Becker.
